Earlier this year the call went out from the Sierra County Arts Council (SCAC) to local artists. The group asked the local art community to submit creations for “A Birdie Affair” — a fundraising event in which area artists were tasked with creating either a bird house, bird feeder or bird bath embellished with the artistic stylings of their choice.
The deadline for submissions has passed, and the unveiling event of the approximately 30 unique contributions is scheduled for Saturday, April 22. The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at RioBravoFineArt Gallery located at 110 N. Broadway in downtown Truth or Consequences.
Artists provided their own bird house, feeder, or bird bath. Entries cover a wide range of artistic approaches. During the evening, each entry will be offered at a silent action with proceeds going to the SCAC Scholarship Fund and the Carol Plec Public Art Fund.
This fundraiser has a nominal $10 admission fee (free to participating artists) and includes food, beverages, live musical entertainment, and an opportunity to support our art community.
The SCAC promotes all aspects of visual and performance art through events like Second Saturday Art Hop, student scholarships, and public art programs like this one. Membership in SCAC is open to all artists and art supporters throughout Sierra County. For more information contact the Sierra County Arts Council at scacnewmexico@gmail.com or call 575-894-0615.
