The year end holiday season is upon us once again. My family eschews the usual trade-off of gifts appreciated but unneeded for donations to organizations that can put the money saved to better uses. Many of these organizations rely on the holiday season to fill their coffers for good work in the year to come.
I ask that you share with our readers organizations in Sierra county that you find worthy of your donations.
Please let us know the name of your favorite organization, if you are in any way affiliated with it, and what it means to you. Oh, and don’t forget to give the contact information for any readers who would like to make their own donations.
I’ll get us started with my donation favorite, the Arrey Food Pantry. Donations can be made to this food distribution center by sending a check to P.O. Box 156, Hillsboro NM 88042. As the name implies, the pantry operates out of Arrey to supply an assortment of fresh and other foodstuffs to an area of the county that has the need. I’m not affiliated with the pantry.
I am the president of Sierra County Animal Rescue Society or SCARS as most people know it. Mostly through donations and a few grants this organization has sponsored the spay/neuter and rabies vaccinations of 180 dogs and over 440 cats to date. The majority of these animals were shelter housed or stray. There is still a huge need in Sierra County for this service. I am hoping you will find it in your heart to give to SCARS. Checks can be mailed to P O Box 435 Williamsburg, NM 87942 or credit card at these individuals Facebook Fundraiser: Marian Thornton, Susan Christy, Susan Hafer, and me, Robbin Brodsky
