House Bill 9, signed into law yesterday, will create two crimes: negligently making a firearm accessible to a minor who brandishes it or uses it to threaten someone; and negligently making a firearm accessible to a minor resulting in great bodily harm or death.

House Joint Resolution 8, which would ask New Mexico voters to approve a constitutional amendment allowing the state to create a citizens’ commission to study lawmaker pay and recommend salary levels, continues to work its way through the Senate. But House Joint Resolution 2, which would lead to 60-day legislative sessions every year, with voter approval, appears dead.

“Bill to protect LGBTQ individuals from discrimination heads to Guv desk”

House Bill 207 updates the language in New Mexico’s Human Rights Act, which was written in the 1970s, to better ensure that public bodies cannot discriminate against LGBTQ individuals.
