Individuals receiving a large, turquoise envelope through the mail should open it because it could be from the New Mexico Human Services Department informing the family they are losing Medicaid coverage because, during the pandemic, their eligibility certification lapsed. The mandate against their disenrollment was lifted with the end of the public health emergency. Fortunately, every hospital in New Mexico has a benefits navigation counselor who can help patients navigate re-applying to Medicaid, though sometimes that staff person is called a financial counselor.
