“US Rep. Gabe Vasquez introduces bill to compensate New Mexico’s oil workers for injuries”

The legislation was announced on Wednesday during Vasquez’s meeting with immigrant workers group Somos Un Pueblo Unido at the Hobbs Public Library, part of a three-day visit by the congressman (who represents Sierra County) to the far-flung reaches of his congressional district that lies in southeastern New Mexico. The bill would create a trust fund to be paid into by energy companies and used to reimburse healthcare expenses of New Mexico oil and gas workers suffering from injuries and ailments tied to poor air quality and intense heat.
