“A look at Rep. Gabe Vasquez’s $10M in earmarks for 2024”

Democrat Vasquez, who represents New Mexico Congressional District 2, called the projects to which he chose to allocate the funds a “statement of values” for the district. His 2024 opponent, Republican Yvette Herrell, did not request any funding for the district when she held the Congressional seat in 2021 and 2022 because of her opposition to earmarks.

CORRECTION: Debora Nicoll, who covers county government for the Citizen, has reported that the Sierra County Regional Dispatch Authority is NOT the recipient of the regrant for a new emergency operations center. Sierra County government is the recipient of the funding for a proposed new center, to be built in Truth or Consequences to “ensure first responders are coordinated in response to any disasters or large-scale emergencies.”
