“Vasquez announces reelection bid in southern NM congressional district”

Democratic Gabe Vasquez, Sierra County’s representative in the U.S. House, will run for re-election, likely against Republican challenger Yvette Herrell, who held the seat before him. At his announcement campaign stop Saturday, Vasquez argued that the people of southern New Mexico cannot afford a return to “far-right extremism that gridlocks Congress.”

The first public poll of the 2024 race in New Mexico’s second congressional district, conducted by SurveyUSA for KOB-TV 4, shows Republican contender Yvette Herrell beating the current CD2 officerholder, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez, 46 to 45 percent, with a margin of error of 4.8 percent. The poll was taken between September 6 and 12 among 541 likely voters.
