“Political map trial ends with more evidence still on the way”

Redistricting experts on opposing sides disagreed at the trial in New Mexico’s Ninth Judicial District Court that concluded yesterday over the partisan fairness of congressional district map approved by the state legislature in 2021. The judge will rule on the constitutionality of the map on October 6, with the plaintiff state Republican Party promising to deliver before then more evidence of the legislature’s intent to create a gerrymander in New Mexico’s Second Congressional District, which includes Sierra County.
