A series of entertaining events are scheduled to take place at the Hillsboro Community Center in September. You’ll find it well worth the drive for any or all of them.
On Sunday, September 3rd you can enjoy a musical concert titled Wild Irish Fiddle with Kate Rose. The concert runs from 3 to 5 pm at the Hillsboro Community Center located at 316 Elenora Street in Hillsboro, NM.
Or, you may want to take in a Two Day Irish Music Workshop also happening at the Community Center on September 4th and 5th. Contact the Hillsboro Community Center for times.
The workshop is true to the spirit of the music and its rooted yet living tradition. Fiddle players and violinists will learn some of the ornamentation, embellishments, and variation that makes tunes distinctly Irish. The course will alternate between collective core activities and individualized or small-group practice. If you are a lover of music and or Ireland who plays an instrument, we can deepen your understanding of the music and gain an understanding of both how it is structured and the emotional impact of what it is saying and where it comes from.
On Saturday, September 16th you won’t want to miss the talk by Priscilla Garcia Franzoni titled History, Rituals, and Symbolism of the Day of the Dead. This talk also takes place at the Hillsboro Community Center, and the event begins at 4 pm. The talk is presented by the Hillsboro Historical Society and you can learn more about them at the website HillsboroHistoricalSociety.com
