EBLSP Lecture Series Begins — Join Us

It won’t be long — the 3rd Elephant Butte Lake State Park lecture series begins Wednesday, November 16 at 6 pm. Kicking off the series of nine entertaining and educational topics is John Johanek, an avid recreational birder for 50 years. There’s great birding on and near the lake, and John can tell you not only what birds you’re looking at but also the best places to go to see them, and when.

From New Mexico’s state bird, the roadrunner (actually a member of the cuckoo family), to the seasonal sandhill cranes (a gamebird in some states), he’ll tell you just about anything you want to know about our local avian species. So follow the signs at park headquarters for an hour of Johanek knowledge and wit.

Durrae Johanek is a Pennsylvania native, transplanted to Montana in 1992, who has fallen in love with T or C, where she snowbirds with her husband, John. To keep her off the streets, John forces her to create art for his ZIA Gallery. In a shoebox under her bed is a diploma from Kutztown State University (yes, that’s a real school) that says she was qualified to write 4 books on Montana and work as an editor for Bird Watcher’s Digest and assorted medical publishers for way too long.
