“Budget, guns expected to dominate discussions during 30-day session”

The focus of the 2024 New Mexico legislative session, which starts Tuesday, will be on passing a budget amid disagreements, even among majority Democrats, about how Democratic governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has proposed to allocate record revenues when revenue growth is expected to slow in the future. Also likely to trigger controversy is the governor’s proposed gun control legislation, said to be the largest and most comprehensive public safety package in the state’s history.
