“House panel discusses big changes to Game and Fish management”

House Bill 184, which would change the way seats are allocated on the New Mexico Game Commission by getting rid of the current system of districts and creating seats for specific groups such as conservationists and hunters, made it out of the Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee on a 6-3 vote last Saturday. House Bill 183, which would abolish the Game and Fish Department and turn it into a division within the Energy, Mineral and Natural Resources Department, stalled on a 5-5 vote, with one Democrat joining the Republicans to oppose it.

“House committee blocks crime package sponsored by Rehm”

A package of legislation introduced by a former police officer known for his tough-on-crime proposals was blocked Tuesday by Democrats on the New Mexico House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee. The measures would have protected merchants from being sued for stopping shoplifters; imposed a life sentence for a person convicted of a third felony; created a felony charge of using a firearm during a drug deal; and enhanced penalties for possession of fentanyl.

  1. This is why I hold my nose when I vote Democratic (Google “Manny Aragon, who was the most powerful person in the NM Senate for decades). But I do vote for the Dems. I know the Republicans never make it any better when they’re in power.
