Seven months after President Biden promised to “fully compensate survivors” of the Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon Fire, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has paid only about $3 million in claims. Most of the monies have gone to the city of Las Vegas, New Mexico to rebuild its damaged water system. Only $400,000 at most has gone to individuals.
