“‘We’ve never been this close before,’ Downwinders cheer RECA amendment in defense bill”

An amendment to extend a federal fund for victims of radiation exposure to include New Mexico, particularly downwinders exposed to the first atomic explosion in the Tularosa Basin, and other New Mexicans involved in uranium mining and milling. The overall defense bill still faces a reconciliation with the U.S. House and a final vote from both chambers.
