The Sierra County Arts Council will host the first ever Artists of Sierra County Studio Tour on November 2-4, 2024 in Sierra County, NM, with tour stops in Truth of Consequences, Elephant Butte, Cuchillo and Caballo. This event is sponsored in part by the Truth or Consequences Lodger’s Tax.
Nestled in between the Gila National Forest and the White Sands Missile Range in southern New Mexico, Sierra County, and its county seat, Truth or Consequences, is well known for its picturesque vistas, vast ranch and farmlands, historical healing waters, storied ghost towns, quirky communities, and Spaceport America.
Sierra County is also home to a deep artistic tradition as varied and unique as its geography. Art galleries line the downtown streets of Truth or Consequences, art openings and performances fill our social calendars, and the monthly Art Hop showcases the work of artists from around the region and beyond.
Dedicated to serving this community, the Sierra County Arts Council (SCAC) supports artistic and cultural diversity through community partnerships and provides educational, artistic, and cultural opportunities to all Sierra County residents. As part of that mission, the Artists of Sierra County Studio Tour, presented by the SCAC, offers locals, tourists, and the art-loving public a peek beyond the gallery showings and storefronts.
This self-guided tour experience through the actual working spaces of participating artists offers a rare insight into the art-making process, the wide range of environments and mediums that local artists may choose, and a direct exchange with the artists themselves. From unique home studios to a converted lumberyard — artists are transforming Sierra County into New Mexico’s newest creative hub!
The purpose of the Artists of Sierra County Studio Tour is two-fold: to showcase and celebrate the artists of Sierra County, and to highlight Sierra County as a premier tourism destination.
