A cacophony of sound
As thousands lend their voices
To the swirling mists
That shroud the waking waters
In the midst of their journey
Cranes, ducks and geese
Art on the wing
Lend a momentary beauty to the dawn
As the sky changes hue
The cattails and reeds
Witness the avian eruption
An explosion of departures
The pastels of dawn lit waters
Are churned with takeoff
Flight after flight
Until only the scragglers linger
A few coots dip their white bills
A Lesser Grebe bobs and dives
A lone doe softly drinks
The refuge regains composure
The Dance of Migration has begun
