Room with a view

Perspective works best when used from different angles. A different view gives a different sense of reality. This morning I was gazing with envy as twenty vultures and a Red-tail lazily soared. I watched as they sought a thermal and took it up in easy circles all the way to the top floor. Then it was off to ride the winds. Ahhhh what a sense of freedom that must bring.
Imagination can work wonders. I sit perched high on a ridge overlooking the canyon below and relaxing into the view, I launch my imagination off the rocky craig and feel the breeze ruffling imaginary feathers. Curling a wing tip a touch to one side and I veer off in elation.
In reality the closest I’ve come to this level of freedom was a hot-air balloon ride over the early morning desert north of Tucson. The stunning piece of that wondrous ride was the quiet. I recall seeing 2 jackrabbits casually moving start and stop and a lone coyote winding it’s way through the desert scrub. I imagine hang gliding brings an even closer sense of soaring like a hawk.
In these times, knowing where to find respite from society and it’s accompanying baggage is a mental must. Refreshing our tether to nature is a reminder of the bonds between all life. We are but a member of the global community. A good, humbling thought as we brace ourselves for another week. As you walk through your week, try stepping a step to one side changing your perspective  just a tad and see what surprises you. That is a bit of spice to your day.
Please, enjoy a few, even short walks this week, relax and observe and above all, smile. It’s a wonderful exercise with maximum benefits.
