“Environmental groups react to new methane rule”

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced a new rule on Saturday that sets a national standard that states and communities can follow to curb pollution-causing methane emissions from oil and gas operations. New Mexico, which passed even stricter regulations in 2021 that the governor’s office says have since reduced methane emissions in the state by 55 percent, may have provided a model for the new federal regulations.
