“Mexican wolf captured near Taos released in Arizona”

The young female Mexican gray wolf—named “Asha” by schoolchildren but known officially—had traveled over 500 miles away from its natal pack in Arizona when it was captured in northern New Mexico in January. As this far was outside the geographical boundaries of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s reintroduction and recovery program, the migrating wolf’s return to the designated experimental population area in Arizona and southern New Mexico was required, much to the consternation of wildlife conservation advocates.
