Arts Council Has a Busy Summer Planned

The Sierra County Arts Council has created a poster of the initial list of events and activities you can experience in Truth or Consequences over the Summer. In addition to the monthly Art Hop, there are several scheduled musical programs on tap. And throughout the summer there are regular gatherings for things like Second Tuesday Trivia, First Sunday Poetry and the weekly Farmers Market every Saturday at Ralph Edwards Park.

It all kicks off the first weekend in May with the 75th Fiesta celebration complete with a parade. A whole range of activities are planned for May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th including live music and food vendors.

Many of the items on the list come directly through the efforts of the Sierra County Arts Council which hosts events throughout the year such as the Fall Studio Tour, the Golf Course Art Show & Sale (recently completed) and the Annual SCAC Membership Party the first weekend each February. It also supports the annual Meteoric weekend in the Spring and the recent Student Art Show as co-sponsors of those events too.

Also on the Summer agenda are two performances at The Lighthouse event building on Austin Street. In May you can enjoy the tenor and keyboard show titled “American Portraits” and in June the talented Sofia Talvik brings her blend of Americana and Folk (with Swedish roots) to town. Cap off the Summer with the annual Pickamania blast at the Black Range Lodge in Kingston where you can feast on a full weekend of live bluegrass and folk music by numerous groups and individual performers.

If you’d like to be more involved in the Sierra County art community, the Arts Council is also hosting its annual fundraiser this Fall asking participating artists to make artistic creations of tables or chairs. Titled “Take A Seat”, this is a great way to support the Arts Council in its efforts to continue bringing more programs to our communities. The final art will be offered in a silent auction in late October at Rio Bravo Fine Art Gallery. You can get more information about this fundraiser by contacting Rebecca Speakes at the Sierra County Arts Council directly either through Facebook, its website www.sierracountyarts.org, on Instagram, by email: scacnewmexico@gmail.com, or by regular mail ( SCAC – P.O.Box 1924 – TorC, NM 87901). And while you’re at it, consider joining. Individual memberships start as low as $12 for students and $18 for seniors.

Soon the new Artists Directory will be available. Later this week the SCAC will begin distributing the 2025 Edition throughout the area. If you’d like to offer copies of the directory to visitors, guests, or customers please contact the SCAC and they will be happy to see that you get a supply – free.

Enjoy the Summer. The Sierra County Arts Council is doing all it can to help make that happern.
